Save Your Tooth with Gentle, Highly Specialized Care
Endodontic therapy – often just called a root canal – is performed on a tooth that is so severely decayed or infected that it is in danger of being lost. At Westerville Endodontics, our root canal specialists are highly trained, have over 30 years of experience, and are dedicated to the highest standards of care. Our experts at Westerville Endodontics use today’s latest techniques and materials and are known for our gentle touch, so you know you’re in the best of hands.
The ABCs of Root Canal Therapy
Here at Westerville Endodontics, Dr. Vicki M. Houck and Dr. Saadia Bukhari perform root canal therapy as an in-office procedure under local anesthesia, which is administered in stages to ensure your total comfort.
After gently removing the infected or inflamed pulp, our endodontists carefully shape and disinfect the inside of the canal. Dr. Houck and Dr. Bukhari use a state-of-the-art electronic apex locator to aid in determining the precise location of the root end, which also minimizes the number of X-rays required during treatment.
The canal is then filled and sealed with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha. In addition, our ultrasonic equipment features small diamond-coated tips, which preserves the tooth's structure and provides more precise treatment.
What happens after root canal therapy?
In most cases, Dr. Houck and Dr. Bukhari can perform root canal therapy in a single visit. More difficult cases may require a second appointment.
Once your treatment has been completed, a written report with images will be sent to your referring dentist. The tooth will require a fixed restoration (filling, onlay, or crown) by your general dentist.
Don't avoid getting your root canal
If you put off getting the endodontic care you need because of fear, you're putting the health of your smile at risk. Saving a tooth with root canal therapy can save you time and money compared to the alternatives. If you lose your tooth, the gap left behind will need to be addressed with a bridge, dental implant, or partial dentures.
